NHRA and Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park officials announced today that the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series event scheduled at Wild Horse Pass, Sept. 26-28 has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled for the 2014 season.
With recent changes to the facility management and anticipated improvement plans that are being put into place, much of the facility will be under construction in the fall of this year. The dragstrip could be open and available for testing, but it will not be hosting any major events.
This change will affect the 2014 Heritage Series points structure and the year-end championships. Nostalgia Top Fuel will now count their best 4 of 5 events and Nostalgia Funny Car will now count their best 5 of 6 events toward the year-end championship. Both classes, along with Group 1 classes, will conclude their points series and crown champions at the season-ending California Hot Rod Reunion presented by the Automobile Club of Southern California, Oct. 17-19.
Racers in the Group 2 classes (NE 1, 2, 3, A-B-C-D Gas, and Hot Rod) will conclude their points series and crown champions at the Nostalgia Fall Championship event at Auto Club Famoso Raceway, Sept. 6-7.
