Tuesday Tech Question

Dear NHRA Tech Department,

I am new to the Jr Dragster program and I just recently purchased a Jr Dragster chassis for my son. Do I need to have this chassis certified in order to pass tech? I also have another question, how fast can my son go in his Jr Dragster?

                Jr Dragster Jim

Tuesday Tech Question Answer

Jr Dragster Jim,

Your chassis you just purchased does not need to be certified by a tech inspector. We do have a guideline in our Jr Dragster Rulebook that provides the recommended thickness for a chassis. The answer to your next question depends on what group your son will be driving in. See the list below on what class and how fast your son can go.

Trainee (Age 5): 20.00 seconds and slower

Youth (Age 6-7): No quicker than 13.70 seconds

Novice (Age 8-9): No quicker than 11.70 seconds

Intermediate (Age 10-12): No quicker than 8.70 seconds

Advanced (Age 13-18): No quicker than 7.90 seconds

Thank you,

NHRA Tech Department
