The NHRA Technical Department reminds all competitors to take a moment to review the following safety requirements and upcoming changes:
1. Steering Rod Ends
All steering rod ends must have a minimum 3/8-inch shank diameter and be installed with flat washers of sufficient outside diameter to prevent bearing pullout. This applies to all classes.
2. Operational Safety Equipment
All safety equipment must be operational if installed regardless of if the equipment is part of or in addition to the minimum required safety equipment per category. This includes commonly added items such as secondary parachutes and fire bottles.
3. Seat Belt Expiration – June Deadline
Driver restraint systems must be replaced every two years from the date of manufacture. All belts marked with a June 2025 expiration will expire at the end of this month and must be replaced before returning to competition in July.
4. Updated Driver Restraint System Requirements – Top Sportsman & Top Dragster
Beginning July 1, 2025, a minimum six-point or seven-point driver restraint system meeting SFI Spec 16.1, SFI Spec 16.5, SFI Spec 16.6, or SFI Spec 16.7 mandatory.
