NHRA Releases 2026 Rulebook Amendment Updates

The NHRA Technical Department has released additional 2026 Rule Amendments. Unless otherwise noted in this document, these additional amendments will come into effect immediately. The 2026 NHRA Rulebook Amendments can be found on NHRARacer.com under Tech, then Rules.

• Section 5B, Advanced ET – Beginning January 1, 2028, seven-point driver restraint system meeting SFI Spec 16.1, 16.5, 16.6, or 16.7 mandatory

• Section 6, Pro Mod – Beginning January 1, 2028, seven-point driver restraint system meeting SFI Spec 16.5, 16.6, or 16.7 mandatory

• Section 7A, Top Sportsman – Beginning January 1, 2028, seven-point driver restraint system meeting SFI Spec 16.1, 16.5, 16.6, or 16.7 mandatory

• Section 7B, Top Dragster – Beginning January 1, 2028, seven-point driver restraint system meeting SFI Spec 16.1, 16.5, 16.6, or 16.7 mandatory

• Section 13, Comp – Beginning January 1, 2028, seven-point driver restraint system meeting SFI Spec 16.1, 16.5, 16.6, or 16.7 mandatory in all advanced classes (quicker than 7.50)

• Section 14, Top Alcohol Dragster – Beginning January 1, 2028, seven-point driver restraint system meeting SFI Spec 16.5, 16.6, or 16.7 mandatory

• Section 14, Top Alcohol Dragster - Use of a liner on beadlock wheels prohibited.

• Section 15, Top Alcohol Funny Car – Beginning January 1, 2028, seven-point driver restraint system meeting SFI Spec 16.5, 16.6, or 16.7 mandatory

• Section 15, Top Alcohol Funny Car - Use of a liner on beadlock wheels prohibited.

• Section 17, Pro Stock – Driver restraint system, additional accepted SFI Specs added
