Question:

I have almost completed construction on my new rear engine dragster to compete in the NHRA Top Dragster class.  I noticed that some companies have fasteners of all colors and types to attach body panels.  Are there any special rules that would be associated with these fasteners?

Answer:

Self-locking Fastener Fred,

In section 20, General Regulations, page 18, Frame 4:7 of the 2012 NHRA Rulebook it states, “All self-locking fastener buttons may be painted any color on their face, but must be WHITE or SILVER ONLY under the face.  This rule applies to ALL cars in ALL classes.”  This rule allows NHRA Officials to easily spot potentially hazardous items that may fall onto the racing surface.
