Question:

I hope to rewire my 1969 Camaro Top Sportsman car later this year.  Are there any requirements as to how the master cutoff is installed?

Answer:

Camaro Carl,

As you know, an external master electrical cutoff switch is required.  If the switch is the “push/pull” type, “push” must be the action for shutting off the electrical system.  No matter what the configuration is, the off position must be clearly indicated with the word “OFF.”  Any rods or cables used to activate the switch must be a minimum diameter of 1/8-inch.  Finally, the cutoff switch must be connected to the positive side of the electrical system and must stop all electrical functions including magneto ignition.
