Question:

I was thinking about installing a removable steering wheel adapter on my Pro ET car.  What NHRA rules would I need to follow?

Answer:

NHRA Classes 7.50 and quicker in the ¼-mile require the steering wheel hub to be certified to SFI spec 42.1.  For your Pro ET car in the 2019 NHRA Rulebook section 21 page 17, 3:3 Steering it reads “Commercially available quick-disconnect steering wheels permitted (except as noted in class requirements).  Adapter must be welded to shaft.  All fasteners must be of a positive nature; no roll or pressed pins, no ball-lock pins, set screws, etc.”
